If you believe you are in a abusive relationship, it is important to seek help before it gets worse. It is popular to justify or rationalize your partner’s behavior or even blame yourself. But getting help and getting away from the situation is the only way to stop the abuse. Below are signs of possible domestic violence as well as signs that violence is already occurring, if you think you know someone that might be abused.

- Uncontrollable mood swings
- Trying to control who you talk to, when you talk to them, where you go and when you go places or gives you limited access to your friends, family, transportation, or money
- Isolating you from the people who care about you, or tries to prevent you from going to work is a sign of imminent danger and you should get help immediately

- Having Frequent injuries and bruises that claimed to be “accidents
- Missing a lot of work, school, or other social activities
- Wearing excessive clothing or accessories that hide signs of physical abuse
- Significant low self-esteem and self-worth
- Isolation from friends and family
